Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject polymer excellent in dielectric characteristic, heat resistance to soldering, adhesiveness, etc., to metals by subjecting a norbornene-based addition copolymer containing a recurring unit having a specific bicyclic structure and a recurring unit having polcyclic structure to graft modification with an unsaturated epoxy compound. SOLUTION: This polymer having 500-500,000 number-average molecular weight is obtained by subjecting a norbornene-based addition copolymer containing a recurring unit of bicyclic structure of formula I (R to R are each H, a hydrocarbon, a halogen, an ester, an amide, etc., with the proviso that R and R or R and R together may form an alkylidene) and a recurring unit of tri- to poly-cyclic structure represented by formula II [(a), (b) and (c) are each 0 or 1; (b+c) is 1 or 2; R to R are each H, a hydrocarbon, a halogen, an ester, an amide, etc., with the proviso that two or more groups in R to R together may form a monocyclic, polycyclic or aromatic ring or R and R together may form an alkylidene; when (b) is 1 and (c) is 0, R and R together may form C-C double bond] to graft modification with an unsaturated epoxy compound.
