Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and reliably detect a vertical directional positioning offset of a distance sensor by forming a correlation between vertical swinging motion of an automobile and target detection/target detecting loss data by the distance sensor. SOLUTION: A vertical swinging (pitching) angle of an automobile 10 is detected by a spring deformation stroke sensor 13 arranged on a front wheel shaft, and is inputted to a control device 12. The control device 12 forms the pitching angle as the frequency distribution HN(N) in a pitching angle section N corresponding to a histogram. Next, a distance sensor 11 forms the combination frequency distribution HD(N, R) to show a frequency at which a target (an obstacle) is detected in a range of a constant distance section R and a pitching section N. There is a correlation between these two frequency sections HN(N) and HD(N, R), and when radiation characteristics 16 and 17 of the distance sensor 11 are positioned extremely low (high), the target is not detected by pitching of the automobile 10. Therefore, the distance sensor 11 is positioned so that target detection D is caused in the same degree as the pitching angle.
