Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a balloon catheter for intraaortic balloon pumping, which is preferably set in a straight part of cardiovascular and capable of performing intraaortic balloon pumping motion with excellent support effect on the cardiac function. SOLUTION: This balloon catheter has a catheter tube 6 with a lumen 14 inside, an inner tube 10 extended in the catheter tube 6 in the axial direction and protruding to the distal end side further than the distal end part, and a balloon part 4 to repeat expanded and contracted conditions by guiding in and out shuttle gas through the catheter tube 6 to a balloon space which is formed inside a balloon part 4 whose distal end part is connected to the distal end part of the inner tube 10 and proximal end part is connected to the distal end part the distal end part of the balloon part 4. The length L of the balloon part 4 from the connecting part with the distal end part of the catheter tube 6 to the connection part with the inner tube 10 is 110-180mm and the outer diameter of the balloon part in an expanded condition is 18-22mm.
