Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially suitable process for the continuous production of an aryl oxalate. SOLUTION: Raw materials (a dialkyl oxalate, an aromatic hydroxy compound and a catalyst; or an alkyl aryl oxalate and a catalyst) are continuously supplied in liquid phase into the 1st reaction zone of a reactor having plural reaction zones in the liquid phase part, the reaction liquid is successively transferred from the 1st reaction zone to the subsequent reaction zone, the reaction liquid containing the objective compound is continuously extracted from the final reaction zone and, at the same time, the evaporated fraction containing by-product (aliphatic alcohol and/or dialkyl oxalate) is continuously extracted in gaseous state from the top of the reactor to perform the transesterification reaction and/or the disproportionation reaction.
