Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool made of surface coated cemented carbide excellent in wear resistance and showing cuttability over a long period. SOLUTION: This cutting tool made of surface coated cemented carbide is obtd., on the surface of a cemented carbide substrate composed of WC base cemented carbide or TICN base cermet, by vapor-depositing a single hard coating layer or double ones composed of either or both of Cr-Ti based multiple nitride and Cr-Ti series multiple carbon nitride respectively expressed by the compositional formula of (Cra Tib Mc )N and the compositional formula of (Cra Tib Mc )Cd N1-d [where, by atomic ratio, (a) denotes 0.5 to 0.7, (b) denotes 0.1 to 0.4, (c) denotes 0.01 to 0.2, a+b+c=1, (d) denotes 0.01 to 0.5, and M denotes Mg, Ca or Sr] by the average layer thickness of 0.5 to 20μm. |
