PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject sizing agent capable of exhibiting stable sizing effect over wide pH region from acidic to neutral sides by including a sulfuric acid half ester salt of a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether and a styrene-(meth)acrylic acid copolymer salt as dispersing agents into a rosin, etc. SOLUTION: This sizing agent is obtained by including (A) a sulfuric acid half ester salt of a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether of the formula R-O(CH2 CH-O)n - SO3 M [R is an 8-24C hydrocarbon; M is a monovalent cation; (n) is 5-25] and (B) a styrene-(meth)acrylic acid-based copolymer salt as dispersing agents into a rosin and/or its modified material so that amounts of the components A and B are each 1-20 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. rosin and/or its modified material. The sizing agent has stable particles and good rising up behavior of sizing effect and good retention to pulp.
