Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obviate the action of a side pressure on coated optical fiber ribbons and to effectively prevent the degradation in their transmission characteristics by fixing a central tension member, the coated optical fibers and intervention with a solidifying agent. SOLUTION: The optical fiber cable 10 is constituted by intertwisting and assembling the plural coated optical fiber ribbons 14 and the intervention 16 around the central tension member 12, such as twisted steel wire and providing the surface thereof with a sheath 18. In such a case, the central tension member 12, the coated optical fibers 14 and the intervention 16 are fixed by the solidifying agent 20, for example, UV curing resin, having a Young's modulus of 0.01 to 1kgf/mm . As a result, even if the side pressure acts not perpendicularly but diagonally on the outer peripheral surface of the cable 10, the solidifying agent 20 acts to displace the coated fibers 14 and the intervention 16 and to prevent the collapse of the array. Then, the action of the side pressure from diagonal does not arise and, therefore, the degradation in the transmission characteristic thereof is prevented. |
