Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject copolymer composed of each specific recurring units in specified proportions, excellent in transparency, optical isotropy, hydrophilicity and heat resistance, and useful for optical materials, etc. SOLUTION: This copolymer is composed of (A) 2-80mol% of recurring unit of formula I ((p) and (q) are each 0 or 1; R to R are each H or methyl; R and R are each a 1-10C alkyl or 5-10C cycloalkyl) and (B) 98-20mol% of recurring unit of formula II [(r) is 0 or 1; R to R are each H or methyl; R to R are each H, a 6-10C aromatic hydrocarbon or 1-10C (un)saturated hydrocarbon]. This copolymer is obtained by ring opening copolymerization between a polar cyclic olefin of formula III and a nonpolar cyclic olefin of formula IV preferably followed by hydrogenation. |
