Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the production cost and to provide a liquid crystal display device having improved dependence on the angle of visual field. SOLUTION: An inorg. layer 4, a transparent electrode 5 and an orienting layer 6 are successively formed on a glass substrate 2, while a transparent electrode 7 and an orienting layer 8 are successively formed on a glass substrate 3. These substrates are laminated with a liquid crystal layer 9 held between them to arrange pixels in a matrix state. Phase different films 10, 12 and polarizers 11, 13 are successively disposed on both principal planes of the obtd. liquid crystal panel. Each transparent electrode 5 is formed like steps on each inorg. layer 4 which corresponds the pixel.
