Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an error processing method/device when an AAL type 5 is selected as a protocol in an ATM network. SOLUTION: When the AAL type 5 is selected as the protocol in the ATM network, CPCS-UU of a CPCS-PDU trailer is used as a sequence number and an error processing is executed. Especially when VOD is realized by the AAL type 5 in the ATM network, CPCS-UU of the CPCS-PDU trailer is used as the sequence number of an MPEG-2 transport stream packet, the number of packets is monitored and errors on a reception-side are processed from a check result by LI and the check result of the number of cells. A packet is abolished for the packet whose original shape breaks based on the errors, and the number of null packets, which is equivalent to the abolished packets, are inserted.
