Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an environmentally benign lubricating material capable of allowing two solid bodies being in mutual contact to slide relatively in low friction and wear irrespective of high/low speed and high/low load, and to obtain a magnetic recording medium improved in durability and travelability by using this lubricating material as lubricant. SOLUTION: This lubricating material is obtained by linking a nonfluoroblock to fluoroblock through reaction of the epoxy group in one party of the above blocks with the hydroxy group, carboxyl group or amino group in the other party of the blocks, having in the molecule at least one ether linkage, ester linkage or carbon-nitrogen bond. The other objective magnetic recording medium is obtained by providing one side or both sides of a nonmagnetic substrate with magnetic layer and also providing the inside or surface of the magnetic layer with the above lubricating material as lubricant.
