Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rapidly fermented feed excellent in digestibility, palatability and suitable for ruminant animals by admixing materials for concentrated feed to alkali-treated agricultural wastes and effecting the lactic fermentation of the mixture under specific conditions. SOLUTION: An alkali agent is applied to agricultural wastes such as bagasse or rice plant straws to give a softened waste whose (hemi)cellulose is inhibited from hydrolysis. This treated waste is combined with vegetable materials for concentrated feed selected from one or two or more selected from crushed cereals, saccharides and lees (preferably in an amount of >=20w/w% in solid basis to the alkali-treated agricultural waste with a pH of >=10.5). Then, the mixture is lowered its pH to <=10, inoculated with a lactic bacterium, Enterococcus faecium HL-5 (FERM BP-4504) to effect the anaerobic lactic fermentation thereby giving this rapidly fermented feed. |
