Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect head clogging in a rotary head type reproducer having a plurality of rotary heads. SOLUTION: Reproduction signals reproduced by rotary heads 1a, 1b are processed by a reproduction signal processor 9 including an error correcting circuit, and output as reproduced data. The data ERR of the number of errors corrected by the error correction is supplied to a head clogging detector 10. The detector 10 compares the data ERR of the number of errors relative to the heads 1a, 1b and detects that the head which generates the reproduced data of the number of the errors of the one head has head clogging when the number of the errors of the one head is much more than that of the other.
