Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ester compound, having excellent pest controlling effects and useful as an excellent pest controlling agent. SOLUTION: This ester compound of formula I (R is 2-propynyl or 2- propenyl; R is a 1-5C alkyl, a 3-5C alkenyl, a 3-5C alkynyl, a 1-5C haloalkyl or a 3-5C cycloalkyl), e.g. 1-(2-propynyl)-2,4-imidazolidin-3-ylmethyl (1R, trans)-2,2- dimethyl-3(E)-[2-methyl-2-(methoxycarbonyl)ethenyl]cyclopropane-1-carb oxylate. The compound of formula I is obtained by reacting, e.g. a carboxylic acid compound of formula II or its reactive derivative with an alcohol compound of formula III in an amount of usually 1-1.5mol based on 1mol compound of the formula II. The pest controlling agent is onbtained by using the compound of formula I as an active ingredient.
