Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically store the data of a counter area by backing up sales data by another storage medium at the time of switching a mode for accumulatively storing sales data in the counter area to another mode. SOLUTION: A signal from a mode switch 12 for alternatively switching and setting up various job modes such as registration, return registration, check, and settlement is inputted to an I/O port 10, and in a registering job mode, sales data such as the number of sold units and selling amount of money of each commodity whose selling is registered are additionally registered in a counter area formed in a RAM 3 and the article name and selling amount of money, etc., of the sold and registered commodity are displayed on a display device 7. Every time of switching the mode switch 12 from the registering job mode to another job mode, the data of various counter areas such as by a section, a transaction, a time zone are automatically written in a counter backup area in a hard disk device 9 to back up the data. Consequently the latest data of various counter areas can be backed up at high frequency.
