Summary:PURPOSE: To obtain a graft modified ethylene polymer exhibiting a suitable adhesion to a metal or a polar resin at low and high temps. by grafting a polar monomer onto an ethylene polymer having specified physical properties (e.g. melt flow rate). CONSTITUTION: This graft modified ethylene polymer is produced by grafting 0.1-50wt.% polar monomer (e.g. an ethylenically unsatd. monomer having a hydroxyl, amino, or epoxy group or a vinyl compd.) onto an ethylene homopolymer or ethylene/3-20C α-olefin copolymer having an ethylene content of 50-100wt.%, a density of 0.85-0.98g/cm , a melt flow rate(MFR) which is 0.01-200g/10min at 190 deg.C under a load of 2.16kg and satisfies the relation with the melt tension(MT) as expressed by formula I, and a flowability index (FI sec<-1> ) (defined as the shear rate when the shear stress at 190 deg.C reaches 2.4×10 dyn/cm in melting) satisfying the relation with MFR as expressed by formula II. This polymer has a good balance between the low-temp. adhesive properties and the retention of adhesive power at high-temps.
