Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently convert plastics, esp. mixed plastics containing polyolefin(s) and polystyrene, into oil. SOLUTION: Plastics are catalytically pyrolyzed to obtain an oily product in the presence of a synthetic silica-alumina catalyst having the following characteristics: degree of crystallinity calculated by the formula described below based on the diffraction line spectrum intensity determined by powder X-ray diffractometry is <=5%; weight ratio: silica/alumina (SiO2 /Al2 O3 ) is (90:10) to (65:35); and, acid value is <=0.4mgKOH/g. the formula is: degree of crystallinity = [S1 /[S1 +S2 )] × 100(%) [S1 is the area of such spectrum that the range of diffraction angle 2θ falls between 22 and 42; S2 is the area of such spectrum that the range of diffraction angle 2θ falls between 20 and 70]. |
