Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a nonwoven fabric, excellent in touch and having a low surface frictional resistance and provide a method for producing the nonwoven fabric. SOLUTION: This nonwoven fabric has an entangled layer consisting essentially of bundles of ultrafine fibers A produced from a removable type splittable fibers and an entangled layer comprising physically splittable fibers and ultrafine fibers B and/or ultrafine fibers B', having the fiber diameter exceeding 1μm and produced from the physically splittable fibers on at least one surface thereof. The method for producing the nonwoven fabric is to laminate at least two ones of a fiber web consisting essentially of the removable type splittable fibers and a fiber web containing the physically splittable fibers so that at least the one surface can be formed of the fiber web containing the physically splittable fibers, further make a fluid stream act thereon, thereby split the physically splittable fibers, produce and entangle the ultrafine fibers B and then remove one or more kinds of the resin components in the removable type splittable fibers and produce the ultrafine fibers A.
