Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently dry the, monolithic refractory coating lined in a vacuum refining vessel for molten metal having vacuum discharge equipment down to its rear surface without the occurrence the destruction, etc., at the coating structure by executing the drying of the coating under specific conditions. SOLUTION: The vacuum refining vessel for molten metal attached with the vacuum discharge equipment is lined with the monolithic refractory coating. At this time, the drying of the monolithic refractory coating is executed by heating the coating after completion of curing of the hydrous coating, then drying the coating in a reduced pressure state with the vacuum discharge equipment. The degree of the pressure reduction is specified to the satd. steam pressure with respect to the rear surface temp. of the coating right after the heating or below and the satd. steam pressure with respect to the atm. temp. or above. Further, the rear surface temp. of the coating right after heating is specified to >=50 deg.C. The degree of the pressure reduction is changed to the satd. steam pressure or below with respect to the atm. temp. at the point of the time the temp. of the coating attains falls at least to (atm. temp.+10 deg.C) during the reduced pressure drying. The reduced pressure drying is then further continued. As a result, the rapid drying of the coating is executed without the introduction of the fresh equipment, etc.
