Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photothyirstor ignition device with an optical monitor directly detecting the quantity of the reception of a photothyristor and capable of accurately deciding the abnormality of the optical transmission system of the phothyristor and having high reliability, and to provide the ignition device for the photothyristor, in which the dispersion of an ignition-delay time is reduced even when a light-emitting means is deteriorated and the load of element voltage at the time of the series connection of the photothristor can be lowered. SOLUTION: A means 80 detecting the ignition-delay time of a photohyristor in installed, and a means 600 deciding the abnormality of an optical transmission system from the change of the ignition-delay time is mounted. A means decreasing the dispersion of the ignition times of a plurality of the photo thyristors connected in series and controlling phase or a means controlling the driving current of a light-emitting element is set up.
