Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and rationally obtain the subject compound useful as a raw material for polymer materials, coating materials, organic synthetic materials, etc. SOLUTION: A 2-hydroxyalkoxy compound having one or more functional groups selected from a group comprising at least one 2-hydroxyalkoxy group, hydroxyl group and amino group in the molecule is subjected to intramolecular dehydration reaction in a vapor phase in the presence of an oxide catalyst represented by formula III (M is one of an alkali metal element and an alkaline earth metal element; Si is silicon; Y is B, P, Al etc.; when (a) is 1, (b) is 1-500 and (c) is 0-1 and (d) is a value determined by each value of (b) and (c)]. Thereby, 2-hydroxyalkoxy group of the 2-hydroxyalkoxy compound is converted to vinyl ether group to provide the objective vinyl ether represented by formula I [(n) and (m) are each 1 or 2; when (n) is 1, X is not H and (m) is 1; X is H, hydroxyl group, etc.; R is independently H or a 1-6C hydrocarbon].
