Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal display element having high reflectivity, a wide visual field angle and high reliability. SOLUTION: This reflection type liquid crystal display element is constituted by disposing an array substrate formed with pixel electrodes 2 having an oriented film 5a on the surface and a counter substrate formed with counter electrodes 7 having an oriented film 5b on the surface opposite to each other via prescribed spacings and sealing liquid crystals 5 into the spacing therebetween. The pixel electrodes 2 of the element described above are formed of metals. Many microprojections 8 are regularly arranged at the boundaries between the pixel electrodes 2 and the oriented film 5a. The pretilt angles of the liquid crystals are adjusted by the directions and angles of the ridge lies of these microprojections 8. The microprojections 8 are formed to pyramidal shapes and the average angle of inclination of the gentlest ridge lines thereof is specified to >=6 to <=11 deg., by which the high reflectivity is embodied.
