Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an easily soluble solid cleaning agent convenient for use and safely usable especially for an automatic dish washer, etc., by spontaneously solidifying a cleaning agent composition composea of solid particles in non- heated and non-pressurized state absolutely without adding water. SOLUTION: A formed material constituting the objective solid cleaning agent has a shape-retainability and a specific gravity of 0.7-1.4 and is composed of aggregate of powdery or granular solid particles having an average particle diameter of 0.05-2.0mm. The particles are bonded with each other through water released from a hydrate contained in at least a part of the solid particle. The term 'hydrate' means a compound containing water in the form of molecule. The cleaning agent can be produced by preparing a composition composed of the aggregate of the solid particles and containing a hydrate in at least a part of the particle, uniformly mixing the composition and leaving the mixture under non-heated and non-pressurized condition for a prescribed period to effect the spontaneous solidification of the mixture. The composition preferably contains 5-50wt.% of an alkali metal phosphate as a sequestering agent, 1-50wt.% of an alkali metal hydroxide as a cleaning agent and 5-50wt.% of a specific alkali metal silicate.
