Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily proofread a document. SOLUTION: Document data of a proofreading object is stored in a document storage device 16 and basic/object words, a checking range, a checking rank, a rule class, a correcting candidate, a message, an example, etc., are stored in a proofreading dictionary storage device 18. MPU 12 obtains analytic information of words in the proofreading object document by morpheme analysis. Next an entry word is fixed and whether the entry word coincides with the basic word is discriminated in order. When the word coincides with the entry word, coincidence is discriminated within the checking range. According to the rule class, one of four processing is executed such as pointing out an error in the case of coincidence, not pointing out the error in the case of noncoincidence, not pointing out correctly in the case of coincidence and not pointing out in the case of noncoincidence. At the time of pointing out, the correction candidate, the message, the example, etc., are displayed based on the rule class and the contents of a proofreading dictionary.
