Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a necessary memory capacity small in a display device driving circuit using a LUT (Look-Up Table) in which the sustain pulse number ratio (one example of sustain pulse data) are stored beforehand to keep the brightness characteristic of a PDP constant. SOLUTION: This circuit is provided with a counter 20 which counts the number of lighting pixels (one example of display area) for each subfield, a relative ratio computing circuit 24 which computes the relative ratio of the counting value of each subfield counted by the counter 20, and a LUT 26 which stores the ratio of the number of sustain pulses for the constant maintenance of the brightness characteristics of a PDP 16 with this computed value used as address. And even when the count values of the counter 20 differ from each other, in the case where the relative ratio of the count value of each subfield is identical, the ratios of the number of sustain pulses to be stored in the LUT 26 can be used in common and the memory capacity required for the LUT 26 is made small.
