Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively improve brightness by providing a light emitting element such as an EL low in brightness with a memory function. SOLUTION: Phototransistors 6, 7 and 8 light-shielded by masks 9 and starting light emitting small pixels 3, 4 and 5 are formed on a lass substrate (on back surface in the state shown by the figure). The phototransistor 8 and a capacitor 15 are connected to the pixel 5 in parallel. The pixels 4 and 5 are serially connected between a power supply line 12 and a GND line 13. The anode of the pixel 3 is connected to a scan line 17 and the cathode is connected to a data line 16. The phototransistors 6, 7 and 8 are constituted so as to be sensible only to the light beams of the pixels 3, 4 and 5. When the pixel 3 emits a light beam, the phototransitstor 6 short-circuits the pixel 4 and the pixel 5 emits a light beam. The phototransistor 8 responds to the beam, short-circuits the pixel 5 and the pixel 4 emits a light beam. Thus, the pixels 4 and 5 alternatively emit light beams.
