Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal halide lamp of 100W or more easy to handle and highly safe in which a light emitting tube is never curved by an impact in the transportation of the lamp by arranging a light transmitting cylinder between the light emitting tube and an outer tube in order to prevent the breakage of the lamp, and firmly fixing the light emitting tube and the cylinder into the outer tube. SOLUTION: A light emitting tube 1 having electrodes sealed to both ends is supported within an outer tube 6 through a light emitting tube strut 3, and a light transmitting cylinder 4 is arranged on the circumference of the light emitting tube 1 and supported through the strut 3. The tube input is set to 100W or more, and when the tube axial length of the cylinder 4 is L, the tube axial length of the light emitting tube 1 is l1 , and the tube axial length of the part excluding the sealed parts on both the ends is l2 , the relation of l2 <L<l1 is satisfied. A support plate 2 having a width of 5mm or more is mounted on either one of the sealed parts of the light emitting tube 1, and the cylinder 4 is fixed to the light emitting tube strut 3.
