Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an element wire for a steel cord having excellent adhesion with rubber by making a thin film thickness of metal plating applied on a peripheral part of welding of an element wire. SOLUTION: This invention is a method of finishing an element wire W for a steel cord by drawing a wire rod applied of brass plating by subjecting to plural wire drawing processes and a length of the element wire W before the last wire drawing process is measured. When the length is shorter than a standard length, an end of the element wire W is jointed with the same type of element wire W in the shortened length by welding and brass plating is applied on the welding peripheral part R wherein the plating is peeled off with the welding, and the element wire W is repaired. Then, a series of the element wire W is drawn by subjecting to the last wire drawing process.
