Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detecting device for crane for use in automated warehouses which is capable of positively and precisely detecting the travelling position of the crane by a simple structure without being affected by slippage between traveling wheels and traveling rails or the like, and contributing to the shortening the cycle time by the elimination of code-plates and the miniaturization of an end stopper. SOLUTION: A moving bracket 23 is mounted to the lower frame 1c of a crane through a guide member 22 so that it can slide in the direction crossing at right angles to a travelling rail 4, and a separate rotatable rotary roller 19 from a travelling wheel, and a sensor 20 are mounted to the moving bracket 23. Further, an elastic member 24 for energizing the rotary roller 19 in the direction in which the rotary roller is pressed against the travelling rail 4, is provided, and the rotation of the rotary roller 19 is detected and outputted as pulses by a sensor 20.
