Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a pig iron under excellent productivity without powdering iron ore in a blast furnace by using an iron ore containing much water of crystallization after prereducing the iron ore into a specific reducing ratio. SOLUTION: The iron ore containing at least 2.0wt.% or higher of water of crystallization is reduced by using a shaft furnace and a reducing gas which is obtained by reforming natural gas and contains 50% H2 and 35% CO at 400 deg.C, into the reducing ratio of >=30%, and charged into the blast furnace as semi-reduced iron ore. In the case the iron ore containing >=2.0wt.% water of crystallization is powdery state, after reducing the iron ore into reducing ratio of >=30% by the same way, the iron ore is blown into furnace from a tuyere of the blast furnace. The pig iron can be produced from the iron ore having high content of water of crystallization under the excellent productivity.
