Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means for obtaining a best S/N in any of cases where a noise reduction effect is switched On and OFF in a magnetic recording/ reproducing device using an MR element as a magnetic reproducing head. SOLUTION: By a first switch element 4 switched associatively with a second switch element for switching ON/OFF the noise reduction effect of a noise reduction part 13, a first current source is supplied from a first power source 7 through a first resistor 5 to a MR element 2 when the noise reduction effect is switched ON, a second current source is supplied from the first power source 7 through a second resistor 6 to the MR element 2 when the noise reduction effect is switched OFF. Thus, by switching a sense current supplied to the MR element 2 associatively with the switching ON/OFF of the noise reduction effect so as to give an optimal sense current, a best S/N is obtained overall.
