Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an anisotropic graphite thin film substrate strong in electric and thermal anisotropic properties, exhibiting mechanically good flexibility and improved in thermal conductivity by calcining a polymer film in an inert gas atmosphere to bend the C surfaces and form pores between the C surfaces. SOLUTION: The film of at least one kind of polymers selected from polyoxadiazole, polybenzothiazole, polybenzobisthiazole, polybenzoxazole, polybenzobisoxazole, polyimide, polyamide, polypenylenebenzoimidazole, polyphenylenebenzobisimidazole, polythiazole and polyparaphenylenevinylene is calcined in an inert gas atmosphere at 400-1200 deg.C, while forcibly releasing gases (excluding carbon gas) generated on the thermal degradation, thus producing the anisotropic graphite substrate having a film thickness of 0.1-1mm and a density of 0.8-1.5g/cc and imparted in flexibility due to pares 4 formed between C surfaces by the curvature 3 of the C surfaces.
