Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent shift sensor which can automatically detect upshifts and downshifts made through manual operations even in an automatic vehicle. SOLUTION: This shift sensor has a rectangular piezoelectric ceramic 4 joined to almost the middle of a shift lever 3 with its longitudinal direction almost coinciding with the longitudinal direction of the shift lever 3 and a circuit substrate 6 which converts the charge generated in the piezoelectric ceramic 4 into voltage and outputs it; from the voltage outputs corresponding to the charges produced from the piezoelectric ceramic 4 when upshifts or downshifts are made with the transmission, the upshifts or downshifts made with the transmission are detected at high sensitivity while eliminating the possibility of direct voltage fluctuations such as temperature drift.
