Summary:PURPOSE: To provide a lubricating oil composition which is free from the hydrolytic generation of a carboxylic acid, improved in thermal stability, electrical insulating properties, and economic efficiency, and reduced in hygroscopicity by incorporating an ester and a specific cyclic ketal or acetal and regulating the kinematic viscosity at 100 deg.C to a specific value. CONSTITUTION: A cyclic ketal or acetal (A) obtained from at least one polyhydric alcohol whose valence is an even number of 4 to 10 and at least one ketal or acetal of a carbonyl compound (derivative) represented by the formula (wherein R is H, a 1-8C alkyl, or a 2-36C alkylene and R is a 1-18C alkyl or a 2-36C alkylene) is mixed with an ester (F) between an alcohol selected from among a 2-50C di- to decahydric alcohol (B) or a 1-50C monohydric alcohol (C) and a 2-50C monocarboxylic acid (derivative) (D), that between the ingredient (C) and a 2-50C di- to decacarboxylic acid (derivative) (E), that obtained from the ingredients (B), (D) and (E) or that obtained from the ingredients (B), (C) and (E), in an (F)/(A) weight ratio of 10/99 to 99/1. Thus, a composition having a kinematic viscosity at 100 deg.C of 0.1-100mm /s and having excellent compatibility with hydrofluorocarbons is obtained.
