Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized monitor device which monitors an optical transmission line by an OTDR (optical time domain reflectometer) method. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with plural optical fibers 38 which have diffraction gratings for reflecting light of specific wavelength in the cores and a connector ferrule 36 which surrounds the diffraction gratings. This ferrule 36 has an access window 42 for inputting and outputting a light signal. Further, an optical detection head 52 for leading the light signal in and out of the diffraction gratings of the optical fibers 38 individually can be moved by a feed mechanism 66 in the array direction of the optical fibers 38. Further, this monitor device is equipped with a means which projects the light signal from the optical detection head 52 and a means which processes and analyzes the taken-out reflected light signal. In this condition, the diffraction gratings function as a means for leading the light signal in and out and the device is made small in size than a device which uses an optical coupler.
