PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing a cell metabolite, capable of continuously operating a device for a long period of time and reducing a space without requiring stirring operation of a culture solution so as to supply oxygen. CONSTITUTION:A separating membrane 6 for passing a culture solution component and a cell metabolite but not a cell is arranged in a shallow part from the level (a) of the culture solution in culture tanks 7 and 8. In the shallow culture zone 7 comprising the separating membrane 6 as its bottom, the culture is carried out at shallow liquid depth (usually depth within 15mm, preferably within 10mm) by maintaining the level (a) of the culture solution by a liquid level adjusting means (e.g. overflowing tank 9) at fixed height while preventing transfer of the cell from the separating membrane 6 to this culture solution supplying zone 8 at the deeper side. A cell metabolite is diffused and transferred through the separating membrane 6 to the culture solution supplying zone 8 to give a metabolite-containing culture solution not containing the cell from an outlet 5 of culture solution.
