Summary:PURPOSE: To always make the coating amount of paste almost constant by a noncontact process to the paste by measuring the amount of paste applied to a core material based on radiation transmission amount, and controlling a paste coating control slit according to the measured value. CONSTITUTION: A continuous belt-shaped metallic core material 1 passes through a hopper 22 filled with paste mainly comprising battery active material powder. The core material 1 passes through a paste coating control slit 22 having blades 23a, 23b to control the paste coating amount, then sent to a drying furnace 31 to dry the coated paste. The core material l passes through a weight measuring unit 4 to measure the paste coating amount. Radiation such as βrays is irradiated to the paste and the transmitted radiation amount is caught with an ion chamber. A signal corresponding to the radiation amount is outputted to an arithmetic processing unit 6, compared with reference data, and a blade control means is controlled through a motor control circuit 7 to control the distance between the blades constituting the slit.
