Summary:PURPOSE: To provide a small sized optical pickup at a low cost with a simple configuration so as to attain ease of assembling in which a flexible printed circuit board is used for connection cords. CONSTITUTION: The optical pickup 10 uses a photodetector to receive a return beam from the front side of an optical disk and in which an output signal from the photodetector is extracted externally and a biaxial actuator is driven and controlled externally. The optical pickup 10 is configured so that ends of a connection cord 13 for a flexible printed circuit board 12 used for drive control of the biaxial actuator and for signal extraction by the photodetector on the side of the optical pickup are provided with lands formed in contact with plural lands corresponding to signal lines of the flexible printed circuit board 12 provided on the side face of the optical pickup 10.
