Summary:PURPOSE: To continue an outlet and an inlet outward respectively and attach a member incorporating a relief valve to a housing case so as to eliminate the improvement work of supply and relief piping and reduce the weight of communication piping. CONSTITUTION: A relief valve device 70 for a gear pump is detachably mounted on the back face of a housing case 42 of a gear pump 40 provided with an outlet 55a and an inlet. The relief valve device for a gear pump is provided with an attachment 71 for covering both of the outlet and the inlet from the outside, an outlet-side penetration hole 72 for continuing the outlet 55a outward, an inlet-side penetration hole 73 for continuing the inlet outward, a communication path 74 for communicating between both penetration holes, and a relief valve 75 which is interposed by the communication path and made to relieve oil from the outlet-side penetration hole to the inlet-side penetration hole, when the oil flowing in the outlet-side penetration hole reaches a prescribed pressure.
