Summary:PURPOSE: To obtain a color paste which gives a coating film with a good flatness and can form a color filter having a low intensity of light scattering due to pigment particles under conditions under which it hardly cracks by using a lactone as the principal solvent and both a pigment and a polyamic acid ester as the constituents. CONSTITUTION: This paste contains a pigment and a polyamic acid ester and is prepared by using a lactone as the principal solvent. When the ester part of the polyamic acid ester contains a photoreactive carbon-carbon unsaturated bond, the incorporation of a photopolymerization initiator and a sensitizer into the paste causes a photocrosslinking reaction in the colored coating film by a desirable dose of light, so that a patterned colored coating film can be formed by dissolving an unexposed area in a developer comprising an organic solvent or an aqueous alkali solution.
