Summary:PURPOSE: To avoid detecting erroneously an extinguished part of ink as an end part of an ink ribbon. CONSTITUTION: An ink ribbon is arranged in between a print head and a recording paper and has a base body 1 at the print head side and a transferring ink layer 6 at the recording paper side. The ink ribbon is moved to the print head in reciprocating way repeatedly and is provided with discriminable parts arranged at its start end part and terminal end part which can be discriminated from the ink layer 6 optically. The discriminable parts of the ink ribbon are detected by an optical sensor so as to let the ink ribbon reciprocate. A coloring layer is formed at the ink layer side of the base body 1.
