Summary:PURPOSE:To make a display with the width of irreducible columns required for the display and display a large amount of data on one screen by calculating the column width by multiplying the maximum number of characters, obtained by the inspection by an inspecting means, by the width of one character. CONSTITUTION:A row counter iw is set to 0 (S11) and an integer (n) for storing a maximum number of characters of data in a j-th column is set to 0 (S12). Then the maximum number of characters of data from the head row to the tail row in the j-th column is checked (S13-S16 are repeated). When inspection up to the tail row is completed, it is decided whether or not the maximum number of characters is 0 (S17). When an affirmative decision is made, namely, when no input data are present in the j-th column, a display with a column width of 0 is made, namely, the j-th column is deleted (S20). When an inaffirmative decision is made, on the other hand, the column width required to display data in the j-th column is found from (width of one character) X(maximum number of characters) (S18). Then the data are displayed on an output device with the newly found column width.
