PURPOSE: To keep the precision of a cast slab and to obtain the cast slab having good surface characteristic by forming a contact limiting plate of a material having different electric conductivity in each position. CONSTITUTION: A molten metal pool is formed between two rolls to execute a continuous casting. The contact limiting plate 1 having the constant thickness is charged into the molten metal pool part from the upper part to regulate the solidified starting point of the molten metal. This contact limiting plate 1 is constituted of the mixed material of a refractory component (MgO, Al2 O3 , etc.) and an electric conductive component (e.g. graphite, ZrB2 , etc.). The contact limiting plate 1 is interposed with supporting tools 8 and connected with an electric source 10 through electrodes 9, 9' to conduct the electric current. The contact limiting plate 1 is made to have the different conductivity with the members, e.g. the graphite is changed to 5%, 20%, 28% from the inside. By this constitution, the sticking and the growth of slag and metal to the contact limiting plate can be prevented.
