Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a variable resistor, which can withstand severe conditions, by providing an outer case having an opening part at the lower surface and a cover for covering a bearing and sealing the outer case. CONSTITUTION:A resistor body 22 is provided at the upper end of the inner surface of an outer case 21 having an opening part at the lower surface. A terminal 23 of the resistor body 22 is electrically connected to a connector terminal 23. A brush 25 is in contact with a brush attaching plate 26, and a shaft 27 is caulked and supported to the attaching plate 26. A cover 30 covers a bearing 29 and is soldered to the attaching plate 26. When the protruding part of a lever 28 is brought into contact with an object and turned, the shaft 27 is rotated. With the rotation of it the shaft 27, the attaching plate 26 and the brush 25 are rotated. Since the brush 25 is in contact with the resistor body 22, the resistance value is changed and outputted through the connector terminal 24. Since the lower end of the outer case 21 is coupled into the inside of a user board 31, water droplets, chemicals and the like are hard to intrude into the outer case 21, and the resistor can withstand severe conditions.
