PURPOSE: To judge an appearance deterioration of a coated bottle by an objective criterion and improve an inspection speed. CONSTITUTION: An inspection light projection means 4 projects an inspection light L to penetrate a bottle 2, and an image pickup means 5 photographs a scattering light resulting from the deterioration of a coating film among the inspection light L and outputs an image pickup signal V. A judging means 7 judges a deteriorated state of the coating film based on the image pickup signal V and a preset reference data. Accordingly, an appearance deterioration caused by the deteriorated state of the coating film on the order of microns can be easily and objectively grasped, and automatically inspected based on the amount and a distribution, etc., of the scattering light due to the deterioration of the coating film. A transfer means 3 transfers the bottle 2 to an inspection position. A position detection means 8 detects that the bottle 2 reaches the inspection position, and outputs a detection signal D. The judging means 7 judges whether the bottle 2 is good in accordance with an output timing of the detection signal D, and therefore can inspect the bottle 2 with more sure timing. An inspection speed is improved since the bottles are inspected continuously.
