Summary:PURPOSE: To obtain a fiber aggregate structure suitable as a contacting material for waste water treatment, a fish farming material, a filtration material, etc., easily disposable by incineration by parallelling fibers in definite direction and welding both ends of the obtained bundled fiber chip. CONSTITUTION: A filament yarn 5 such as vinylidene chloride fiber, polypropylene fiber or a highly water-absorbing fiber having a fineness of 1-100 de and a percentage crimp of 10-75% is wound on a bobbin 4. The filament yarns 5 are taken out from plural bobbins 4 through guide rolls 6, 7, 8 by a take-up roll 9 to form a bundled fibers 10 parallelled in one direction. The bundled fibers are intermittently welded interposing definite spaces with an ultrasonic welder 11 placed between the guide roll 8 and the take-up roll 9. The fiber bundle is cut at the welded part with a cutter 12 placed at the downstream side of the take-up roll 9 to obtain a fiber aggregate structure 13 having a length, width and height of 5-100mm each and a porosity of 80-99%. The fiber aggregate structures are collected in a container 14.
