Summary:PURPOSE: To obtain an insulation diagnostic apparatus for electric machine in which the diagnosis can be made accurately with high sensitivity while eliminating the effect of noise. CONSTITUTION: Output from an antenna 2, disposed at a position for detecting an electromagnetic wave generated through partial discharge due to deterioration of insulation of an electric machine, is scanned by means of a tuner 3 and the detected data is stored in a memory section 51. A sorting section 52 sorts the data and an invalidity designating section 53 invalidates the data from the largest one through nu -th one and the data from the smallest one through the nb -th one. A calculating section 54 calculates the mean power level from the valid data and a decision section 55 compares the mean power level with a reference value. When the mean power level exceeds the reference value, a signal is delivered to a relay 7 in order to notify occurrence of partial discharge. Alternatively, only the data having large value or small value may be invalidated.
