Summary:PURPOSE: To provide a communication method for a bidirectional television system and a transmitter/receiver capable of executing a specific reproducing function with fidelity for the intention of a viewer in communication between a CATV broadcast station and terminal equipment. CONSTITUTION: When a specific reproduction instruction is inputted to an input terminal 104, a controller 107 transfers the instruction to a broadcast station 201, and an intermediate mode setting circuit 108 issues a command to set an intermediate mode to a data reproduction circuit 105, and the controller 107 and a mode encoder circuit 109 transfer data to the broadcast station 201 via a transmission line 204. The data reproduction circuit 105 judges whether or not reception data from the broadcast station 201 is the one when the instruction is inputted, and stops the intermediate mode when it is the data. The reproduction circuit 105 supplies the data from the broadcast station 201 to a reproducing output device, and the control circuit 107 judges whether or not release is commanded, and sets the intermediate mode when such command is issued. The reproduction circuit 105 judges whether or not the reception data from the broadcast station 201 is the one next to the data of release command, and receives the data from the broadcast station 201 when it is the next data.
