Summary:PURPOSE: To generate frame image data, which have no blurring and high picture quality, from field image data. CONSTITUTION: The image data of odd-numbered field images and even- numbered field images are alternately applied at every 1/60 second. The image data of even-numbered fields are applied to a memory 12 and the data of odd- numbered field images before and after the even-numbered field image are applied to memories 11 and 13. Windows are set to those images (window circuits 14, 15 and 16) and the presence/absence of any motion is detected between the windows of two odd-numbered field images. When there is no motion, while using the pixels of the even-numbered field image omitted in the odd- numbered field image and positioned corresponding to the pixels to generate data, the data of pixels omitted in the odd-numbered fields are generated (interpolated pixel value arithmetic circuit 21). When there is any motion, while using pixels omitted in the odd-numbered field images and positioned above and under the pixels to generate data, the data of omitted pixels are generated (arithmetic circuit 20).
