Summary:PURPOSE: To improve the stickability of a paper sheet and to prolong the life of a fixing roller by releasing the pressure of the fixing roller, when a nontransfer paper passes through a fixing part and allowing the press-contact of the fixing roller again, after the passage of the paper. CONSTITUTION: A paper guiding plate is provided on the paper entrance side of a heating roller 80 and a paper entrance sensor for detecting the passage of the paper is provided on the paper guiding plate. When a slip sheet, etc., are fed and their entrance is detected by the paper entrance sensor, a solenoid 106 is once turned on/off to connect a clutch, so that a contact/uncontact cam 88 is turned by 180 deg. and a press-contact roller 83 is separated from the upper heating roller 80 for a fixed time, not to apply heat and pressure to the paper. After the passage of the paper, the solenoid 106 is operated again so that the contact/uncontact can 88 is turned by 180 deg. again, the press-contact roller 83 is brought into press-contact with the upper heating roller 80, to attain fixing on an unfixed paper. Thus, the winding of the slip paper, etc., on the heating roller 80 can be eliminated to prevent the jamming of the paper.
